LOW BACKGROUND PURE 2x4x8 Lead Shielding Brick Block FERMILAB 26 lbs
For sale is a LOW BACKGROUND Lead Shielding Brick Block.
It comes from the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and was used
for scientific instruments. The bricks were carefully checked for
safety prior to being released.
These are ULTRA PURE lead bricks that are dead soft.
Because these bricks are dead soft and contain zero hardening alloys
(like antimony), they are incredibly malleable. As a result, they will
have gouges, dented corners, and surface imperfections from handling and
transit. These marks are your proof of extreme purity. If you need
a perfectly smooth surface, they can easily be hammered or pressed
flat.
I built a small shielding cave out of these LR bricks and put my
Radiacode spectrometer inside for 15 minutes. I noticed that CPS
counts dropped from about 3 in the regular environment, to only 0.1
CPS - see the attached Radiacode screenshots.
Each brick is 2x4x8 in dimensions and weighs approximately 26 lbs.
I have a total of 14,000 lbs of this material (approximately).
Some pieces are half bricks, but mostly these 2x4x8 units.
All bricks have SURFACE IMPERFECTIONS that you, the buyer, will
need to smooth out with a hammer or some such. Examples are gouges,
impacted corners, etc. They are made of unbelievably soft lead that
you can easily scratch with your fingernail. So they gouge very
easily, and can be brought into shape very easily also.

This is used in sensitive gamma experiments.
